Project overview

Construction: Complete Bathroom Remodel with Enlarged Shower, Wood Vanity & Updated Finishes

Project: Primary Bathroom Renovation

location: Gilroy, CA

focus: Bright, Accessible & Timeless Design

Sometimes the right time doesn't come until life finally slows down.

When our clients purchased their home in 1997, they always envisioned remodeling the primary bathroom. But between raising kids, building careers, and life's everyday demands, the project continually moved to the bottom of the list.

Nearly thirty years later, with retirement on the horizon, it was finally time.

The original bathroom felt dark and cramped. A chipping cast-iron tub hadn't been used since the kids were little, the tiny enclosed shower was difficult to enter, there wasn't enough storage, and the lack of overhead lighting made the space feel even smaller.

They wanted a bathroom that felt brighter, functioned better, and would comfortably support them for years to come.

PROJECT SCOPE

This primary bathroom renovation included:
• Complete bathroom demolition
• Removal of oversized cast-iron soaking tub
• Enlarged walk-in shower
• Built-in shower bench
• Handheld shower fixture
• Blocking for future grab bars
• Wood vanity with increased storage
• Statement patterned floor tile
• Black plumbing fixtures
• Linen-covered wall sconces and recessed can lighting
• Antique armoire for additional storage
• Bamboo window shades
• Interior paint and finish updates

OUR APPROACH

We started from the ground up, removing everything and reimagining the room around how they live today—and how they'll live in the future.

The oversized tub gave way to a spacious walk-in shower that is twice the size of the original, complete with a built-in bench, handheld shower head, and blocking for future grab bars. A larger vanity provides generous counter space and storage, while an antique armoire adds character without making the room feel crowded.

Layered lighting, warm wood tones, textured bamboo shades, and patterned floor tile transformed the once-dark bathroom into a bright, welcoming retreat.

The Details We Love

A Shower Designed for the Future
Doubling the size of the shower created a brighter, more comfortable space that's easy to enter today and thoughtfully prepared for tomorrow.

Character Over More Cabinetry
Instead of filling the room with additional built-in cabinets, we repurposed the former tub space with an antique armoire, adding warmth, personality, and practical storage without making the room feel smaller.

Light Makes All the Difference
Recessed lighting, linen-covered sconces, bright white walls, and natural textures work together to completely transform the feel of the space.

Life at Home Today

After nearly three decades of waiting, this bathroom finally reflects the life they've built.
What was once the darkest room in the house is now one of the brightest. Every detail—from the spacious shower to the layered lighting—was designed to make everyday routines more comfortable today while allowing them to enjoy their home for many years to come.
